Over a century ago, Alexander MacRae emigrated from Scotland to Australia. He began a hosiery company in 1914 and soon designed the revolutionary "racerback" style swimsuit that allowed more range of motion and freedom of movement than other swimsuits at the time. In 1928 the brand name "Speedo" was born.
The 1932 Los Angeles Olympics gave Speedo a lot of attention when then sixteen year old swimmer Clare Dennis won the 200m breaststroke. As time went by, Speedo continued to enjoy huge success at the Olympic games around the world. In the modern times, Speedo was among the first to use spandex which is a great material for swimsuits. They have also manufactured wetsuits and triathlon gear.
